Michael Ende A végtelen történet-je annyi idős mint én. Egyszerűen zseniális könyv: izgalmas történet, érdekes és jól megírt karakterek és mindezek mellett az életre tanít anélkül, hogy ezt észrevennénk. Életemben négyszer olvastam el, és minden alkalommal valami újat mondott nekem.
Először úgy 6-7 éves korom körül olvastam, vagyis pontosabban anyukám olvasta hangosan, miközben én bebújtam mellé a takaró alá. A könyv már akkor teljesen elvarázsolt. Igaz, akkoriban a mindenféle mesealakok, manók, sziklaevők, versenycsigák, tudós törpék és természetesen a gyöngyház-fehér szerencsesárkány ragadta meg oly nagyon a fantáziámat. (Azóta is van valami különös vonzalmam a sárkányok iránt). Akkor megtanultam, hogy milyen fontos a barátság, és a bátorság az életben.
Aztán pár év múlva már magam olvastam el. Akkor elgondolkodtatott Morla* a magányról és az öregségről. Elhatároztam: én sosem leszek magányos. És attól kezdve jó és hasznos ember akartam lenni. Olyan aki megmenti egész Fantáziát*. Éreztem ugyan, hogy valami mégsem stimmelt ezzel a megmentősdivel, de tipikus tinédzserként túlságosan dacos és önző voltam, hogy felismerjem miért bukik bele majdnem Bux Barnabás Boldizsár is*. (Pontosan azért önző és dacos.)
Húszévesen került ismét a kezembe A végtelen törénet. Kíváncsi voltam, hogy vajon felnőtt fejjel is szeretni fogom-e. Végül nemcsak, hogy szerettem, de ugyanúgy elvarászolt mint gyerekkoromban. Ugyanúgy féltem, sírtam és örültem. És megtanultam, hogy nem tudjuk mindig irányítani a dolgokat körlöttünk, időnként csak hagyni kell, hogy megtörténjenek velünk. És ez így van jól. Azt is megtanultam, hogyha van egy jól meghatározott célunk, akkor mindig adódnakolyan lehetőségek (“szerencse”), amely közelebb visz hozzá, nekünk csak meg kell ragadnunk ezeket. Cél nélkül azonban csak kóválygunk. És ugyankkor a Déli Jósda* harmadik kapuja megtanított, el kell fogadnunk a helyzetünket ahhoz, hogy tovább tudjunk lépni. Ha görcsösen akarunk megváltoztatni valamit, akkor az csakazért sem fog változni, ha viszont elfogadjuk olyannak, amilyen, önmagától fog változni.
És most, harmincévesen ismét eljött az ideje A végtelen történetnek. Legnagyobb meglepetésemre már megint előállt valamivel, amit eddig nem vettem benne észre. A meglepetés ezúttal Az Ezer Ajtó Templomával* kezdődött. Ezen keresztül bárhova eljuthasz, csak pontosan kell tudnod, hogy hova akarsz menni. Mindig újabb és újabb, más és más ajtók és kapuk között kell választani, és csak akkor jutsz végül ki az útvesztőből, amikor teljesen világossá válik számodra, hogy mit is akarsz elérni. Aztán a könyv második része alapjában véve csak arról szól (nem is értem, hogy ez eddig miért nem túnt fel), hogy az ember hogyan határozza meg és ismerheti fel céljait és kívánságait. Arról, hogy milyen következményei és buktatói lehetnek rosszul megfogalmazott, vagy téves feltételezésinken alapuló kívánságainknak. (Már nem tudom, hol hallottam és kitől, de rögtön ez ugrott be: “Vigyázz, hogy mit kívánsz, mert még megvalósulhat!”)
Valószínúleg nem utoljára olvastam A végtelen történetet, és kíváncsian várom, hogy vajon legközelebb milyen elgondolkodni valóval rukkol nekem elő. Úgy képzelem, hogy akkor már lesz(nek) gyerekü(ei)nk. Lehet, hogy szülői tanácsokkal lát majd el? Ki tudja, legyen inkább meglepetés ;-)
Neked van ilyen könyved, ami ennyire meghatározó az életedben?

*a nevek és elnevezések eltérhetnek a hivatalos magyar fordítástól, ugyanis a második két alkalommal az angol verziót olvastam (a magyar kiadású könyv azonban sokkal szebb, inkább azt ajánlom)
Ui1: A végtelen történet film változatának nincs sok köze a könyvhöz. Egyszer megnéztem, többet nem fogom.
